As we all process the tragic events that occurred today at Sandy Hook Elementary School, here are suggestions for what parents can do to help your children cope with what has occurred.
- We encourage parents to limit children’s exposure to the news coverage of the tragedy in Connecticut, as it will undoubtedly contain graphic images.
- If children have questions about the events, we encourage parents to answer their questions openly and honestly and assure children that they are safe.
- School counselors will be available to children who may need to talk about the event. Please contact your school principal or counselor if you feel it is necessary.
